Statement

My aim is to create an expressive response to the subject. The free flow of the paint with no fixed intention is always the starting point. Slowly the subject begins to emerge and there is always a sense of hoping to find a shape or texture that begins to suggest the way forward. The potential of what wants to be revealed and the search for the underlying wholeness in the developing painting continues to set challenges. A feeling of rightness emerges and only then can the sense of a "certain knowing" begin to take shape.

"an artist's work can often be viewed as a metaphor for their life - a way of making sense of their particular experiences".

My works appears to fit this explanation, a summing up of memory and experience. The feel of a place rather than a photographic copy of the subject and the final painting is just my personal experience.
